Fortunate One

What could have been, isn’t.  There are no real “what-if-I-had…” because it didn’t.  If I had, I wouldn’t say it.

Life is a series of choices, happenstances, and consequences.  There sometimes isn’t a clear choice mostly because we complicate our lives with scenarios involving people or situations that are really not as important in our lives as we think they are.

Take financial security.  So many are invested - quite literally - in saving money in several forms.  Pile it all up, as high as can be.  Check that stock market daily, maybe obsessively on the hour. In the meantime, life happens.  Sickness, job loss, births, deaths, weddings, funerals.  What was so important?  Oh, yeah, more money.

This moment, right now, think this:  Here I am up to now.  All of my life’s choices, happenstances, and consequences brought me to this moment.  But what if I …?  No.  No.  No.  Too late.  I am who I am right now.  You are who you are right now.

Now is the time to ask yourself “what is important?”

Now is the time to prioritize for the rest of your life.

Don’t be afraid.  Surely, you’ve learned something along the way.  Certainly there is more to life than accumulating fortune.   Theresa M

Past Being Cold

Deep in January now, I try to remember childhood winters.  Growing up in Texas there wasn’t much snow at all, but it was cold.  I have few memories of what I actually did, other than stay inside and read.

I never even threw snowballs or made a snowman until I moved north when I was an adult. I hope someday I get to make at least one more snowman, before the snow will only be a distant memory, or only on a far-off mountain.

What will the kids of today remember of their winters here?  The winters without snow - outdoor activity will be the same year round I guess, biking, basketball, maybe swimming. If it isn’t too hot of course.

It seems animals and nature adapt by necessity.   But many people adapt according to their greed.  Somehow I don’t think that is how God intended it.  After all, he gave humans the distinguished task of being stewards of this earth.

Who knows, but more importantly, who cares?  We all have to adjust one way or another.  You know exactly what I mean.   Theresa M                                       https://climate.nasa.gov/

We Interrupt This Crisis...

My sanity comes from laughing.  Yep.  Laughing.

Recent events in the world have been almost unbearable for a variety of reasons, from fires destroying so much in Australia, to being what many feared was minutes away from a World War III breakout.  Tense, scary times.  The world is praying, hating, cursing, and crying all over the place.

Then on PBS that one evening, on a Tuesday, the Kennedy Center honors for Mark Twain Prize was broadcast.  This time it was for comedian Dave Chapelle.  Although I missed the opening, I started watching as Tiffany Haddish was on.  She is hilarious.  I felt brighter.  I felt relief.  The show went on to air various celebrities honoring Chapelle, as well as sharing clips of his comedy from throughout the years.

I laughed.  I felt relaxed.  Some of the humor is a bit racy and raunchy, but for the most part it is simply funny, and brilliant.

That night, as the world felt so tense about what was possibly the start of a war, as Iran bombed U.S. air bases over there, something jolted many of us away to just simply let go of the fear.  Let go of what was happening that was out of our control.  To let go and be in the moment.  Although many things happen within the same moment,  sometimes you’ve got to make a choice as to which one you’ll be in so you can survive intact.

Laughing once again rescued me.       Theresa M.

Take Care

We are all in this together.  Australia is burning.  The Middle East is warring.  The planet is warming.  The glaciers are melting.  Governments are increasing corruption.

Too much arguing goes on as to who or what to blame.  So much energy used up in anger and attacks.  We need more focus on solutions.  I don’t know what to do, but I pray.  I put out words of encouragement, of hope for endurance.

Those in government and other fields have the knowledge, the capabilities and the resources to work together to stop the atrocities occurring.  But there are some, maybe too many, who put their selfishness first - for money, power, material acquisitions.

Enough!  People everywhere need to wake up and take another approach in prioritizing what is important.  Stock market?  Money?  How about life - food - water - safety?  Back to basics.  Necessities.

Our world is crumbling around us.  We always come back to this in our lives:  the necessity of getting basic needs met.  Only it is really more than just about the individual; it is about the family, the community, the nation, the global shelter of all lives - for humans, animals, and plants.

Let’s do this.  Let’s focus on basic needs.  Insist our governments ensure basic needs are met among its communities.  Take care of each other, including animals and nature.  Take care.  Now that would be energy well spent.         Theresa M

     Light of Hope

Heat is not escaping,
it smothers me to tears.
Water is not quite drenching
the fires torching here.

Nearby I hear the screams
of animals that perish.
Smoke and flames end the lives
of all we love and cherish.

Oh distant light in sky
I see your aura faint.
Please find a way to help
all others that remained.
